I am a regular volunteer with Re-claim it!
A nonprofit arts and reuse retail store that salvages materials from the “dump” (metro transfer station operated by Recology) for artists, homeowners and DIYers to Reuse, Repair and Reimagine.
Their goal is to reduce the amount of items that end their journey at the landfill and raise awareness about creative reuse. In their partnership with Recology, they are able to gather materials from the Metro Central Transfer Station including wood, metal and vintage items. Volunteers are trained to collect items that can be reused in the home, garden or for creative purposes.
Many of the items recovered from the Metro transfer station only need a little T.L.C. to reenter the home or garden. Volunteers clean and repair items in the store in an effort to save those pieces for future use.
Nothing is junk. Each piece gleaned, repaired or saved can be used creatively for practical or creative purposes. They love being able to collaborate with the thriving artistic community.
